LOS ANGELES - Dr. Mamdouh Bahna, 60, of Bel Air was sentenced Monday to 58 months in federal prison for using his Bel Air Surgical Institute to fraudulently bill insurance companies for more than $2.4 million for unnecessary surgeries, including "sweaty palm" surgery, federal prosecutors said. Bahna paid patients for submitting to unnecessary surgery and was assisted by Dr. William Hampton, who is awaiting sentencing, who also state faces charges in Orange County.
