Distributor Won’t Cough Up Fee, Filmmaker Claims

LOS ANGELES (CN) -Film distributor DigiWorld Studios agreed to open the Italian movie "The Listening" internationally and throughout the United States, but allegedly refused to pay the $3 million price tag when the movie didn't make the cut for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.

The Italian moviemaker, Echo Film, says DigiWorld was so impressed by the critical acclaim the independent Italian movie "The Listening" got at home that it convinced Ammo Films, which had already secured distribution rights, to let it circulate the movie.

DigiWorld also allegedly edited the English-language movie and added two of its senior executives to the film's credit list as producers, all without Echo's approval.

DigiWorld and its partners continue to distribute and promote the movie around the world, without having paid a penny, according to the federal lawsuit.

Echo Film is represented by Emily Maxwell.
