DISH Network Settles With 5 States

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - Missouri will get $325,000 as part of a five-state settlement with DISH Network. Attorney General Chris Koster said his office received 261 complaints from Missourians about DISH, which denies any wrongdoing, though it will pay the money.

The agreement settles complaints that DISH misrepresented the number of channels customers would receive, whether they would get local channels, their monthly bills, terms and conditions of service and additional fees.

The settlement includes restitution for customers who filed complaints with the attorney general between Jan. 1, 2004 and July 9 this year.

DISH Network also agreed on limits to its marketing.

Koster said customers who haven't filed a complaint may be eligible for restitution if they file a complaint with his office in the next 150 days, if the complaint occurred within the past two years.

"My goal is to ensure satellite and cable television services play by the rules and give consumers correct information they need to make sound decisions," Koster said in a statement.
