Dirty Tricks Alleged in Massachusetts

DEDHAM, Mass (CN) - Tim Cahill for Governor claims "former high-level campaign staffers" swiped "confidential and proprietary information" and sent it "to the rival campaign of Charlie Baker," after Cahill had paid them and their company $215,000. Cahill's lawsuit comes as the state attorney general is investigating Cahill's former staffers' claims that he broke the law by trying to benefit from taxpayer-funded ads for the state lottery, which Cahill oversees as state treasurer.

Cahill's campaign sued Strategic National Campaign Management, Jordan Gehrke, Adam Meldrum, John Weaver, and John Yob in Norfolk Superior Court.

Cahill is the third man in the gubernatorial race between incumbent Democrat Deval Patrick and his Republican challenger, Baker.

The state lottery office said it would stop running the disputed ads until the attorney general completes her investigation.

Meldrum and other former staffers have denied the allegations made in Cahill's lawsuit. Their attorney told Massachusetts media that Cahill filed his lawsuit to try to muzzle his aides' statements about the lottery ads.

Cahill is polling a distant third in the race. His campaign is represented in its lawsuit by Joseph Demeo of Boston.
