Dirty Trick, Class Tells Illinois Central RR

CHICAGO (CN) - Since the 1980s, the Illinois Central Railroad has illegally sold abandoned properties it did not own to "hundreds" of Illinois residents, a class action claims in Cook County Court.

The class claims the railroad knew it owned the properties only so long as it operated a railroad on them. Plaintiffs claim the railroad, which began operations in 1851, knew its rights lapsed once it abandoned the properties, but it "sold" them anyway.

Plaintiffs, which include the City of Pana, are represented by Terence Buehler with Touhy, Touhy, Buehler & Williams.
