Dirty Politics Alleged in Michigan

MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (CN) - A state House candidate claims a man defamed him in robo-calls that claim he "'uses the Internet to lure young girls into nude modeling sessions at his home.'"

Phillip DiMaria sued Daniel Sloan in Macomb County Court.

DiMaria, a Democrat, is serving his 10th term on the County Commission, according to the Macomb County website.

He claims Sloan slandered him in late June through "unsolicited mechanical telephone calls, i.e. robo-calls, to the public."

DiMaria claims that "the robo-calls made various slanderous statements, including, but not limited to, 'DiMaria takes dirty pictures in his basement' and 'DiMaria uses the Internet to lure young girls into nude modeling sessions at his home.'"

DiMaria, a retired police officer, has served as chairman of the county's Justice and Public Safety Committee and also serves on the board of Wigs4Kids, a charity that creates wigs for children who have lost their hair from illness, according to the Macomb County website.

He seeks damages for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and tortuous interference with his run for the state House, which pays more than $70,000 a year.

The complaint contains little or no information about Sloan.

DiMaria is represented by Albert Addis, with O'Reilly Rancilio, of Sterling Heights.
