COLUMBUS, OHIO (CN) - No one looks good in former Sheriff Alfred Myers' federal defamation claim against Delaware County and the interim sheriff who replaced him, co-defendant Mark Wolfe. Myers was Delaware County Sheriff from 1992 until he resigned on May 31 this year, charged with criminal ethics violations for selling county vehicles through a family member.
Myers says the County Commission appointed Wolfe interim sheriff knowing Wolfe had animus against his predecessor, who had fired him. Myers pleaded guilty to the ethics violations on June 1 and was sentenced to probation. Oh June 6, he says, Wolfe publicly denounced him as a child pornographer, claiming kiddie porn had been found on Myers' official computer. Myers claims Wolfe knew the porn was there as the result of an official investigation in 2003. On June 7, Wolfe was replaced as interim sheriff by Walter Davis, who dropped the bogus kiddie porn "investigation" on July 2, Myers says. He demands punitive damages for defamation, malicious prosecution and abuse of process. He is represented by Robert Palmer. See complaint.
