DirecTV Wins Appeal| In Piracy Lawsuit

PHILADELPHIA (CN) - DirecTV may sue nine individuals for pirating satellite signals under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the 3rd Circuit ruled.

The court affirmed summary judgment for the satellite provider, ruling that the plain language of the Act clearly states that private parties may bring an action against any person who illegally intercepts encrypted transmissions. See ruling.
