Dip Maker Says Salmolux Sold Tainted Fish

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (CN) - A Tennessee gourmet dip maker wants Salmolux, a Washington seafood company, to pay $1 million for allegedly selling smoked salmon contaminated with the bacteria listeria monocytogenes, forcing a massive dip recall.

In October 2007, the Georgia Department of Agriculture notified the House of Thaller that a sample of its salmon dips tested positive for the bacteria, Thaller claims in Federal Court. The dip maker says it recalled all products that may have contained the tainted salmon.

After an investigation, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration verified that Salmolux had been the source of contamination.

Thaller seeks $1 million plus punitive damages. It is represented by McDonald, Levy & Taylor.
