Diocese Settles Sex Case for $1.2 Million

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (CN) - The Belleville Diocese will pay $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit from a former altar boy who says he was molested by a priest. John Doe claimed in St. Clair County Court that the Rev. Raymond Kownacki molested him. Last year, a St. Clair County jury awarded $5 million to another former altar boy who accused Kownacki of molesting him. The diocese is appealing that verdict.
