WASHINGTON - Makers of semi-trucks and other vehicles over 14,000 pounds must install on-board diagnostic systems to monitor emission control components for malfunctions, by model year 2013, according to a new Environmental Protection Agency rule.
A dash-mounted warning light also must be installed, and the system must be able to store data identifying malfunctions.
The new rule also requires manufacturers to make available to the service and repair industry information necessary to perform repair and maintenance service on the diagnostic systems and other emission-related engine components.
