DFS Financial Makes Bogus Charges, Class Says

CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - DFS Financial Services makes unauthorized charges on customers' credit cards, a class action claims in St. Louis County Court. Christopher Thornton says DFS charged him $400 plus interest for a payment protection plan that he never bought.

Thornton says the payment was charged to the card as a regular purchase and he was charged interest on it. And he says DFS agents were verbally abusive when he questioned the charges.

He says DFS investigated and told him he owes for the plan, but refused to provide him with any of the information from its investigation and threatened him when he filed a small-claims suit against DFS. The small claims suit was dismissed without prejudice.

The class consists of all DFS credit card customers who have been subjected to unauthorized charges. He demands damages and an injunction. Thornton is represented by William Cheeseman of Troy, Mo.
