Detective ‘fudged’ testimony

NEW ORLEANS — The Orleans Parish district attorney was unable to dismiss a wrongful conviction suit filed in Louisiana federal court by a man who spent 35 years in prison for a rape that was vacated through the efforts of the Innocence Project. The ex-defendant’s amended complaint alleges the former DA, now deceased, failed to disclose exculpatory evidence or by fabricating evidence including false witness statements, and that the police detective in charge of testing bodily fluids in the rape case was asked by the D.A. “to come in and ‘fudge’ his testimony. And that’s what he did.”
