Despite Handful of Tight Races, Trump Victory Likely

(CN) — As Election Day bleeds into the day after, website RealClearPolitics has predicted GOP nominee Donald Trump has secured enough electoral votes to become the 45th president of the United States.

As of 10:53 p.m. PST, the website gave Trump 277 of the 271 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. The website lists Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's electoral tally at 215.

The website gave Pennsylvania to Trump, a race that has lasted into the night.

Trump also holds a close lead in Michigan, with 16 electoral votes up for grabs. He also likely picked up Wisconsin's 10 electoral votes.

In the West, Arizona appears to be leaning toward Trump, while Nevada will likely go for Clinton.

Early returns show Trump holding a commanding lead in Alaska, although the polls there closed at 10:00 p.m. PST.

Republicans also appear to have retained control of the Capitol, losing just one seat in the Senate and four seats in the House.

But Democrats lost state governorships, with the GOP picking up Missouri and Vermont.
