WASHINGTON (CN) - A former sheriff's deputy from Missouri pleaded guilty on Thursday to sexually abusing a teen-age girl in his patrol car. Steven W. Burgess faces up to 14 years in federal prison.
Burgess pleaded guilty to depriving the 15-year-old girl of her constitutional rights by sexually assaulting her while she was in his custody.
Burgess was a Jackson County deputy during the July 2007 attack.
Burgess was on duty when he spotted the victim and her friends at a park in Sibley, Mo. He ordered the friends to leave, but told the girl to stay with him. Burgess put her in handcuffs and touched her sexually while patting her down. Then he took the cuffs off and ordered her to perform oral sex on him.
In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to seek a 14-year prison sentence without parole. A sentencing date hasn't yet been set.
