Dems Pick Up Long-Held GOP Minnesota House Seat

Five-term Republican incumbent Erik Paulsen lost his House seat to Democratic challenger Dean Phillips in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District, inching the Democrats closer to a House takeover.

(CN) – Five-term Republican incumbent Erik Paulsen lost his House seat to Democratic challenger Dean Phillips in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District, inching the Democrats closer to a House takeover.

The district, which covers the western suburbs of the Twin Cities, was won by Hillary Clinton by 10 points in 2016. Paulsen has tried to distance himself from President Donald Trump, saying in ads that he stood up to Trump. No Democrat has held the seat since 1961.
