ST. LOUIS (CN) - St. Louis is one of four cities being considered to host the 2012 Democratic Convention. The Democratic National Committee said St. Louis, Cleveland, Charlotte and Minneapolis are the final candidates.
The convention will be held the week of Sept. 3, 2012, the week after the Republican Convention in Tampa.
Landing the Democratic Convention could boost St. Louis' struggling economy. The convention could bring 500,000 visitors and pump as much as $266 million into area hotels and restaurants.
St. Louis has hosted five national party conventions, most recently in 1916, when Woodrow Wilson was nominated at a Democratic convention at the old St. Louis Coliseum. St. Louis lost a bid to host the 1988 Republican Convention, when the party chose New Orleans.
