Democrat Wexton Edges Out Republican Incumbent in First House Flip

In one of the first U.S. House seat flips of the day, Democrat Jennifer Wexton beat out incumbent Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock in Virginia’s 10th District.

(CN) – In one of the first U.S. House seat flips of the day, Democrat Jennifer Wexton beat out incumbent Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock in Virginia’s 10th District.

Wexton, a state senator, led Comstock by double digits by 8 p.m. EST. The win for Democrats is seen as a strong rebuke of President Donald Trump, as the district has only been represented by Democrats for six out of the last 66 years.

Trump lost the district by 10 points in the 2016 presidential election. Both candidates raised millions of dollars in the race, with Comstock edging out Wexton with $5 million compared to Wexton’s $4.6 million.
