Deluxe Market Settles Uninspected Meat Case

NEW YORK (CN) - Deluxe Food Market and its president, Ka Che, agreed to a permanent injunction barring it from selling uninspected meat as part of a settlement with the government over claims that it violated the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Poultry Products Inspection Act.

In the consent decree, U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska also required the Manhattan market to implement screening measures to prevent retailers from buying uninspected meat.

The government's complaint in the Southern District of New York accused Deluxe of selling hundreds of pounds of pork, duck, chicken and other meats that were not federally inspected, as required by law.

Deluxe and Che also agreed to pay the government $11,000 to cover the costs of the investigation.
