Delta Dismissed From Fatal 2006 Crash Suits

LEXINGTON, Ky. (CN) - Delta Air Lines employees cannot be held liable for the 2006 crash of Comair Flight 5191 that killed 49 of 50 people on board, a federal judge ruled.

U.S. District Judge Karl Forester dismissed the airlines from more than 19 pending lawsuits over the tragic crash that occurred on Aug. 27, 2006, when the plane took off from the wrong runway at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington.

"In short, there is no allegation that any Delta employee failed to exercise reasonable care in the performance of his/her duty in any manner in respect to Flight No. 5191," Forester wrote.

Comair is a subsidiary of Delta.
