Delay to Jury Selection in Vanderbilt Rape Trial

NASHVILLE (CN) - An attorney's injury interrupted jury selection scheduled to begin Monday for a rape trial involving former Vanderbilt University football players.

Judge Monte Watkins noted that Worrick Robinson, who represents for Cory Batey in the upcoming trial, tore his bicep and was undergoing an MRI this morning to determine if surgery is necessary.

Batey is one of four former Vanderbilt Commodore football players indicted last year for the alleged June 23, 2013, rape of an unconscious 21-year-old student in one of the players' dorm rooms.

Along with 21-year-old Brandon Vandenburg, 20-year-old Batey faces five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

Vandenburg was also charged with one count of tampering with evidence and one count of unlawful photography

The alleged rape victim claims to have been attacked in Vandenburg's Gillette House dorm room.

Vandenburg and Batey face trial this week.

Their former teammates Brandon Banks are Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie, face charges on the alleged rape, as well. Banks and McKenzie, both 20, are charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. Their trials have not yet been scheduled.
