Defense May Buy|From Caucasus Region

WASHINGTON (CN) - To shorten supply lines to operations in Afghanistan and to promote good will in the troubled Caucasus region, the Defense Department has proposed to amend Federal Regulations to allow purchase of goods and supplies from nine countries in the area.

The countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The department also proposes to suspend balance of payments considerations, which restrict trade with nations who do not have comparable trade with the United States.
