Defense Issues Policies for|Military Support of Police

WASHINGTON (CN) - Insisting that its policies are consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, the Department of Defense has issued regulations laying out specifics and assigning responsibilities for the Defense Support of Civil Authorities.

The rules supplement regulations regarding military support for civilian law enforcement by request of civil authorities for domestic emergencies, designated law enforcement support, special events and other domestic activities.

The Defense Department notes that the U.S. military can be trained for various contingencies that may occur in more than one state, and that it is useful for troops to be deployed where they are needed, by a single agency.
