WASHINGTON (CN) - The Department of Defense is asking the public to comment on the best means to enable public posting of department contract actions.
The department anticipates the public notice of federal contract actions will become a requirement and wants to be able to post such actions without compromising contractors' proprietary and confidential commercial or financial information.
The Obama administration has made transparency in government contracting through an open acquisition process a priority since it issued a memorandum to all executive agencies in January 2009 called "Transparency and Open Government".
That memorandum called upon all agencies to leverage new technologies to rapidly disclose information on federal contracting to the public, and ordered the Chief Technology Officer of the Office of Management and Budget to issue an Open Government Directive outlining how those technologies could be utilized.
