Debt-Repayment Scheme

A California appeals court ruled that debt repayment company Nationwide Biweekly and related entities are entitled to a jury trial over liability and penalties related to charges that they operate illegally, including offering services without a license to do so.

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) -- A California appeals court ruled Wednesday that debt repayment company Nationwide Biweekly and related entities are entitled to a jury trial over liability and penalties related to charges that they operate illegally, including offering services without a license to do so.

In a related federal case, the companies have already paid a $7.3 million fine for misconduct.
