Debt Collector Went Too Far, Woman Says

PHILADELPHIA (CN) - Academy Collection Services threatened and harassed an alleged debtor by repeated phone calls in which its agent called her "scum," a "crook," and said she had Alzheimer's disease, the woman claims in Federal Court.

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act complaints are so numerous that Courthouse News seldom reports them. We include this complaint because it is distressingly typical of alleged debt-collection tactics that produce lawsuits.

The plaintiff lives in Florida. Academy is based in Philadelphia.

The plaintiff seeks punitive damages for FDCPA violations and intentional infliction of emotional distress. She is represented by Mark Mailman with Francis & Mailman.
