(CN) - The owner of a Decatur, Ga., day care center has been indicted on charges of bilking a Lottery-funded pre-K program.
According state prosecutors, Alice Adeusi, owner of the Big Apple Child Daycare center, submitted falsified class rosters to the Georgia's Bright from the Start program, pocketing $25,000 to which the school was not entitled.
The Bright from the Start program requires daycare centers to specify how many classes the lottery will fund, and to certify that each class has at least 22 students.
Prosecutors said following a complaint from a teacher at daycare center, an investigation reveals Adeusi submitted rosters that included the names of children who were not actually enrolled at her daycare center.Adeusi has been charged with four counts of making false statements. If convicted, she faced up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.
