(CN) - A Mississippi woman did not unduly influence her father into conveying property to her, the state appeals court ruled. In 1993, Bordman Humphrey sued his daughter to void a pair of deeds he had used to convey property to her one year earlier. He also tried to add several defendants to the case who had acquired an interest in the land.
Humphrey claimed that Jeannette was supposed to hold the property temporarily to keep it away from another daughter, Wilda.
The county chancellor ruled that the family worked together on the land deal, and Judge Carlton upheld the decision, ruling that Jeannette did not use a confidential relationship to influence her father.
"The record reflects that he was dependent on others to take care of him," Carlton wrote, "The record reflects that he was primarily being cared for by his daughter, Nadine, not Jeannette, at the time of the conveyances."
