Danger in the Cowboys Party Zone

DALLAS (CN) - An El Paso man says in court that he needed surgery after a heavy sign and pole in the standing-room-only "party zones" at Cowboys Stadium fell onto him.

Manuel Bustamante sued Cowboys Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys Football Club, team owner Jerry Jones and AT&T Inc., among others, in Dallas County Court on Thursday.

He says he was in a party zone during an October 2010 football game against the Tennessee Titans when the sign and pole fell onto him, causing injuries that required knee surgery to repair.

Team sponsor AT&T had allegedly erected the sign with co-defendants Global Experience Specialists Inc., Fabric Images Inc. and Exhibit Services Group Inc.

"Plaintiff suffered injuries to his neck, head, back, right arm, shoulders, right wrist, right knee and body in general," the 16-page complaint states. "Said incident was proximately caused by the negligence of the defendants."

Cowboys Stadium has a party zone above each end zone that is accessible by fans who purchase tickets at the greatly reduced price of $29.

There are no seats and no guarantee that ticketholders will get a view of the field. Instead, they watch the game on the giant high-definition screens suspended above the field.

In August, a Cleburne woman sued the Cowboys in Tarrant County Court. She claimed she sustained third-degree burns on her legs when she sat down on a hot, black marble bench outside of the $1.3 billion stadium.
