Cyber Attacks

WASHINGTON (CN) - Malicious cyber attacks on electric power stations supporting critical U.S. assets soon may beable to be avoidedby thestations' implementing reliability standardsapproved bythe Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Each of these electric power stationsis to identify critical cyber assets; develop and implementsecurity management controls to protectthem; verify identity and do a criminal checkfor personnel with access tothem; identify and protect an electronic security perimeter and access points andcreate and maintain a physical security planthat ensuresall cyber assetsare keptthere; andsecure the systems. The FERC also directs the North American Electric Reliability Corporation to modify the standards to address specific concerns. Click here for details and other new regulations and notices.
