Cyber Attacks

WASHINGTON (CN) – Malicious cyber attacks on electric power stations supporting critical U.S. assets soon may be able to be avoided by the stations’ implementing reliability standards approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Each of these electric power stations is to identify critical cyber assets; develop and implement security management controls to protect them; verify identity and do a criminal check for personnel with access to them; identify and protect an electronic security perimeter and access points and create and maintain a physical security plan that ensures all cyber assets are kept there; and secure the systems. The FERC also directs the North American Electric Reliability Corporation to modify the standards to address specific concerns. Click here for details and other new regulations and notices.
