Crooked Wheelchair|Merchant Pleads Guilty

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A Long Beach wheelchair-seller faces up to 10 years in federal prison for defrauding Medicare of $1.5 million.

Akinola Afolabi, 54, pleaded guilty Monday to health care fraud.

He admitted that as owner and president of Emmanuel Medical Supply he used "marketers" to refer Medicare beneficiaries to him for phony claims. He submitted $2.7 million in fraudulent claims and Medicare paid him $1.5 million, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement announcing his guilty plea.

He will be sentenced on Nov. 25.
