Crooked Governor Gets $65K Pension

CHICAGO (CN) - Former Gov. George Ryan finally won one after being convicted of racketeering and fraud - he can keep part of his state pension. An Illinois appeals court ruled that Ryan can keep the pension he earned as a state lawmaker and lieutenant governor, because those positions were unrelated to the charges against him.

But the court said Ryan had to forfeit the part of his pension he earned as secretary of state and governor, during the time the corruption occurred. Ryan's attorney, former Gov. James Thompson, told The Associated Press that the decision means Ryan will get an estimated $65,000 a year.
