Driving east on Interstate 40 parallel to old Route 66 in northern Arizona, a sign points to the Meteor Crater Natural Landmark. Created by a meteor the size of a bus that struck during the Pleistocene era 50,000 years ago, it is described as “the first crater recognized as an impact crater from a natural celestial body.” March 2020.
