HOUSTON (CN) - Two people who were severely injured in the recent and deadly collapse of a monster crane at the Lyondell Basell refinery in Houston have sued the crane company for allegedly failing to take safety precautions that would have prevented the tragedy.
In a lawsuit filed in Harris County Court, Andrea Booker and Darrick Anthony say they were rushed to the hospital by ambulance after the July 18 crane crash that killed four individuals and injured several others.
They say Deep South Crane & Rigging Co. should be held liable, because it failed to implement adequate safety measures, or properly maintain and inspect the equipment to keep the 30-story crane from crashing to the ground. The plaintiffs also accused the company of failing to properly operate the monstrous machine, which is capable of lifting more than 1 million pounds.
Booker and Anthony want Deep South to pay for their past and future medical expenses, lost wages, pain and anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement.
They are represented by the Buzbee Law Firm of Galveston, Texas.
