Courthouse Shooting Suspect Arrested in N.C.

(CN) - A suspect has been arrested in connection with the Tuesday shooting at a North Carolina courthouse that left two men wounded.

Police officials said Demond Levar Morris, 31, of Rocky Mount, M.C. was taken into custody early Thursday morning and charge with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill

He is currently being held on $500,000 bond, the officials said.

Two men were injured when a gunman ran up the steps of the country house in Nash, N.C., fired several shots, and then ran away, escaping in a light-colored car. Nash is approximately 40 miles east of Raleigh.

One man was shot in the hand and leg. Another man ran around the east side of the building and was shot in the back.

The victims were identified as Donte'a Evans, 34, and Lamar Ricks, 31. Both men were taken to Nash General Hospital and were then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. They are in stable condition.

Morris's apprehension came a little more than a day after police interviewed and released another suspect, whom they later said had an alibi and was not near the courthouse at the time of the shooting.

Police officials would not say how they found Morris, but they had been offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrests or conviction in the case.
