Court Won’t Reconsider Anna Nicole Smith Ruling

(CN) - Lawyers for the late Anna Nicole Smith lost their bid to have the 9th Circuit reconsider its ruling not to award her daughter any money from her late husband's $1.6 billion estate.

A three-judge panel refused to rehear the case and denied a request for a hearing before a full panel of the San Francisco-based court.

The 9th Circuit in March upheld a Houston jury's verdict that the former Playboy Bunny's estate - namely, her toddler daughter, Dannielynn - is not entitled to oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall's money.

Marshall willed his estate to his son, E. Pierce Marshall, launching a fierce legal battle over the family fortune. Lawyers have kept the dispute going after Pierce Marshall's death in 2006 and Smith's death in 2007. Smith, aka Vickie Lynn Marshall, overdosed on prescription drugs at age 39.

Kent Richland, who represents the Smith estate, said he would appeal the case to the Supreme Court.
