Court Vacates $6.86M Attorney-Fee Allocation

NEW ORLEANS (CN) - Not so fast, the 5th Circuit told lawyers who had convinced the district court to divvy up a $6.86 million attorney-fee award among more than six dozen plaintiff attorneys in a consumer class action against Shell Oil. The lower court approved a fee committee's allocation recommendation in 20 minutes, preventing close scrutiny of the plan.
