ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A state Court of Special Appeals delayed the deposition of the chief clerk of the Maryland House of Delegates in a Republican-led lawsuit seeking to invalidate all laws stemming from last month's special session of the General Assembly.
Republicans claimed the Senate violated the state Constitution by taking too long of a break during the session without permission from the House. Democrats say the allegation is frivolous.
The deposition of Chief Clerk Mary Monahan was planned today in Tampa, Fla.
The court granted an emergency motion to stop the deposition, filed by the attorney general's office, until further order from the court.
