Court Says Indiana Voter ID Law Unconstitutional

(CN) - Indiana's voter ID law is unconstitutional and must be declared void because it "regulates voters in a manner that is not uniform and impartial," the Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled.

The Republican-controlled Indiana General Assembly passed a law in 2005 requiring citizens voting in person on Election Day to present government-issued photo identification.

The law didn't apply to voters casting absentee ballots by mail.

The League of Women Voters of Indiana challenged the law, saying it discouraged Democrats from voting.
