Court Reporting Service Claims |Court Reporters Defamed It

CHICAGO (CN) - BESCR, a court reporting agency, demands $850,000 from Goodman Reporting Service, claiming its owner Trisha Goodman defamed, intimidated, interfered with and conspired against BESCR by falsely reporting that BESCR failed to pay court reporters, and that its owners are "criminals."

BESCR, of Chicago, claims it was hired by a law firm that needed a court reporter in Tulsa. It hired Goodman Reporting, got Goodman's bill on June 13 and paid it in full - $2,337, for one day's work - on Oct. 2.

BESCR claims that Goodman was unhappy with the delay, and unhappy that it would have been paid more had it not been hired through BESCR, so it "began a campaign to intentionally damage and destroy Plaintiff, maliciously libel Plaintiff and tortiously interfere with Plaintiff's business."

BESCR claims Goodman set up a Web site for the purpose of defaming it, and that Trisha Goodman is the author of defamatory statements on the Web site, including that BESCR's owners are "committing fraud," using "fraudulent business practices," that they "have no intention of paying the reporters" who work for them, and that BESCR "was being sued or would be imminently sued by the Illinois Attorney General."

BESCR demands punitive damages. It is represented in Kane County Court by Daniel Konicek of Geneva. See complaint.
