MANHATTAN (CN) - Corruption is a bipartisan affair in Yonkers, federal prosecutors say. They indicted the former Democratic Majority Leader of the City Council, and the former head of the Yonkers Republican Party, and indicted a Westchester County attorney too.
Former Yonkers City Councilwoman Sandy Annabi took more than $160,000 in payoffs, and has been charged with conspiracy, bribery, extortion, false statements, and tax crimes, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Also indicted are Zehy Jones, former head of the Yonkers Republican Party, and attorney Anthony Mangone; they were charged with conspiracy, bribery and extortion "in connection with two real estate development projects within the City of Yonkers which were pending before Annabi," the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.
