Corrupt Navy Commander Gets 6½ Years

SAN DIEGO — Navy Cmdr. Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz was sentenced Friday to 6½ years in federal prison for giving classified ship schedules with information on the Navy's ballistic missile defense operations in the Pacific to a foreign defense contractor for cash, gifts, travel and prostitutes.

Misiewicz, 48, of San Diego, was handed the longest sentence of the 10 sailors who have pleaded guilty to the conspiracy.

U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy called it "not just a fall from grace. This is a swan dive off the Empire State Building."

U.S. District Judge Janis Sammartino called the crime "one of the most serious I've had on my time on the bench."Misiewicz could have been sentenced to 15 years for bribery and 5 for conspiracy
