SEATTLE — A federal court in Washington state granted default judgment and $7.8 million in damages to a group of authors, Amazon Content Services and Penguin Random House in their suit against an online library operated by Ukrainian nationals that offered pirated copies of authors’ works. The defendants haven’t participated in the suit and have “taken efforts to avoid accountability.”
