Cops Stormed His House Because He Hosted|Reporters During GOP Convention, Man Says

ST. PAUL (CN) - Ten St. Paul cops invaded a man's home and held him and his guests captive there during the Republican Convention because he was hosting journalists with Eyewitness Video, who document police abuse, Michael Whalen claims in Federal Court. In separate complaints, a reporter for Portland IndyMedia says St. Paul cops assaulted and battered her during the GOP convention, and a woman claims Ramsey County sheriff's deputies assaulted and strip searched her with no law-enforcement purpose.

Whalen claims the police force fabricated knowingly false charges to storm his house because he denied entry to an FBI agent. Among the allegedly bogus charges were that he had supported Irish independence 20 years ago, that he had owned a bookstore with Sarah Jane Olsen 20 years ago, and that he "had received large, heavy boxes in the U.S. Mail."

Whalen says the "large heavy boxes" contained "vegan literature." He says the cops raided his house, and damaged it, to punish him for hosting the journalists.

He demands damages for constitutional violations, false arrest, false imprisonment, trespass and privacy invasion. All plaintiffs are represented by Ted Dooley.
