Cop Admits to Alien Smuggling

SAN DIEGO (CN) - A New Mexico police officer pleaded guilty to a federal charge of alien smuggling. Ronald Haley admitted he showed a bogus immigration document for a woman who sat beside him in the passenger seat as he drove through the San Ysidro port of entry on March 26.

"In his plea, Haley admitted that on March 26, 2010, he encouraged and induced an illegal alien to enter and reside in the United States with intent to violate federal immigration law," the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Haley, 41, of Albuquerque, will be sentenced on Sept. 3.
