WASHINGTON (CN) - All rough diamond imports into the United States now must be entered formally using a Customs and Border Protection Entry Summary, according to the Treasury Department's Foreign Assets Control Office.
Rough diamond importers and exporters also must file an annual report beginning in September.
The new regulations are to strengthen the Kimberley Process, an international initiative to prevent rough diamonds from being used to finance civil wars such as those existing in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Angola in the 1990s.
