Condo Group Pulled a Fast One, Man Says

MIAMI (CN) - A man claims his condo association broke into his vacation home on ritzy Brickell Key, changed the locks and rented it out while he was away. Renzo Rangel accused the Isola Condominum Association of theft, conversion, fraud, trespass and conspiracy, in Miami-Dade County Court.

Rangel says he discovered treachery was afoot when he passed by his apartment in December 2008, but couldn't unlock the door. After gaining entrance with police assistance in January, Rangel says, he discovered the condo association had rented out his apartment and stolen some of his property to boot.

Inside the condo, Rangel says, he found a lease for his condo, along with two curious suitcases, and says he was missing "several large flat screen high definition television sets, expensive artwork, and other decorations."

Rangel says he has served the defendants with a civil theft notice, demanding more than $53,810 in damages, but they haven't paid him.

Named as defendants are the Isola Condominum Association, Multiple Listing Exchange, Pamela Hall, Allison Evans, Joseph Bovina, Svetlana Khranistova, and Pedro Suarez.

Rangel is represented by Mauri Peyton.
