Comment Period Reopens|for Air Conditioning Gas

WASHINGTON (CN) - In October, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed the use HFO-1234yf, subject to use conditions, as a substitute for CFC-12 in vehicle air conditioning.

Several stakeholders asked that the comment period for the proposal be extended.

The public will now have until Feb. 1, to comment on the proposal.

HFO-1234yf is known as a non-ozone-depleting substance that does not contribute to stratospheric ozone depletion. It does, however, have similar heat exchange properties as CFC-12 making it viable in air conditioning systems.
