Come Off it, Woman Tells Eye Clinic

MINNEAPOLIS - A woman claims Dr. Mark Lobanoff and North Suburban Eye Specialists scarred her cornea during three failed Lasik surgeries, and misrepresented themselves as "the preferred Lasik provider of the Minnesota Vikings," based on "just one testimonial" from a former Vikings player, who played 25 years ago.

Layla Linegar demands statutory and compensatory damages for fraud and breach of informed consent.

She claims that the medical office advertises itself as "'the preferred Lasik provider of the Minnesota Vikings.' That dubious claim is based on just one testimonial from Greg 'Coffin Corner' Coleman, who indeed punted for the Vikings 25 years ago, before the invention of Lasik."

Linegar claims she underwent three failed eye surgeries at the clinic in less than a year, which left her with "an irreversibly scarred cornea in her left eye ... blind in that eye, and in need of a cornea transplant."

The clinic is in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Linegar says the clinic defrauded her not just through the failed surgeries, but through its "claim that they are 'the preferred Lasik provider of the Minnesota Vikings,'" and its slogan, "Trust the pro the pros trust."

She is represented by Todd Kroner of Chappaqua, N.Y., and Michael Zimmer of Minneapolis.
